Dede, a fisherman from Java, baffled medical experts when warty "roots" began growing out of his arms and feet after he cut his knee in a teenage accident.

Now 35, long ago sacked from his job and deserted by his wife, Dede has been raising his two children in poverty. To make ends meet he even joined a local "freak show".

Things are now on the up side for Dede - he has been treated by American doctors who have removed most of his warts, allowing him to use his hands once again.

Unbelievably, Dede is in no way related to pro surfer Jamie 'The Freak' O'Brien although they do share the same surfboard and apparel sponsor - Rusty.
