Made Awan Joins Rusty

Indonesian surfer Made Awan has signed a three-year sponsorship deal which will see him riding for Rusty surfboards and apparel until the end of 2011.

"I'm really excited to start the year fresh with new boards under my feet" said the smiling regular-foot. "It feels great to represent a growing company that backs me 100%."

In 2008 the 25-year-old finished the year with a career-best 4th overall ranking on the Coca-Cola ISC Tour. The highlight was a victory at the Rusty Rumble In Da Jungle event held in 6-foot Sanur perfection.

The win got the attention of Rusty GM Kane Faint who is now stoked to welcome Awan to the family:

"Awan's surfing really bloomed last year. He was motivated in heats and proved that he can perform in all conditions. He's a great addition to our team and I'm looking forward to seeing him reach his full potential."

Look out for Awan at his local break Serangan or shredding island-wide alongside fellow Rusty riders Marlon Gerber and Agus Pernawan.

Tree Man wears Rusty

Dede, a fisherman from Java, baffled medical experts when warty "roots" began growing out of his arms and feet after he cut his knee in a teenage accident.

Now 35, long ago sacked from his job and deserted by his wife, Dede has been raising his two children in poverty. To make ends meet he even joined a local "freak show".

Things are now on the up side for Dede - he has been treated by American doctors who have removed most of his warts, allowing him to use his hands once again.

Unbelievably, Dede is in no way related to pro surfer Jamie 'The Freak' O'Brien although they do share the same surfboard and apparel sponsor - Rusty.
